The bamboo forest temple located at Yuan bay of Xingou village, Zhanjie town, the fane leans against mountain and faces river, with great building and quiet and secluded environment. There was a pool in front of the temple; the lotus was planted in the pool with drifting fragrance, as well as planted flowers and trees inside and outside the temple, additionally the singing of frogs brings over, all form a appealing movement, when the feast is coming, a number of pilgrims come in a continuous stream and go to a Buddhist temple and offer incense to Buddha. So the high official of Gongyi makes the temple as one of eight sceneries, called “bamboo forest night moon”, also named “bamboo forest old temle”

 

With years changing, now the fane has been inexistence, none but the temple mountain left, liking to tell an interesting story of “bamboo forest temple” to tourists. At late of Ming dynasty, it was said that there was a mastermind in the fane, he was advanced in years and highly respected. Except that he usually did Buddhist ceremony for people, he also expert at medical knowledge, he went to mountain and gathered medicinal herbs to cure illness for alms givers in his spare time. Once, he went to gather herbs and saw a trunk of thousand-year fleece-flower root which has become shape of human, if one eat it, he will rise into sky and become a celestial being. So he dug the fleece-flower root and carried back to temple, asked prentices to set up firewood to braise the fleece-flower root, it can be eaten after 49 days, when the 42^nd day was coming, a person was dead in a family, and the mastermind was invited to do Buddhist ceremony. He can not help but to consent to the family after a fashion, to come back as soon as possible, he went along with two favorite prentices, and said to prentices over and over, they were not allowed to open the cage cover, or else were punished with money.  The 49^th day was coming, the heat within the cage slot was emitting, the aroma attacked nose. The little monks were bursting to it, and they opened the cover and ate the fleece-flower root up. When they was running away, They saw their master returning in the gate, they had no choice but to bend their knees in yard waiting for treatment. At once, everyone felt the whole fane was moving, they left ground slowly, and the mastermind has expected prentices eating wonder drug and speeded up step, when he reached the front of mountain gate, suddenly, a great noise occurred like mountains collapsing and the earth cracking up, the fane rose high into the air, the little monks all became celestial beings, the fane disappeared. They three persons held head and cried loudly, they had no choice but to leave here, becoming an roam monk. Hence, the bamboo forest temple disappeared on the ground of Gongyi.
